Don Megahan has been our organist and choir director since 1993 and now serves as our Acting Music Director. A renowned concert organist, Mr. Megahan is a star in Pittsburgh’s musical firmament. His abilities as a nuanced keyboard accompanist and attentive and aware choral conductor are admirable and his leadership abilities are made manifest as Director of the Youngstown Symphony Chorus, where he’s in his seventh season.From 1987 to 1995, Mr. Megahan performed with the internationally recognized Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh, serving as accompanist on the group’s 1995 tour of central Europe. His also spent 13 enjoyable seasons as accompanist for the Junior Mendelssohn Choir, two of which found him as assistant conductor of the group. Mr. Megahan studied music at Duquesne University, earning bachelor’s degrees in sacred music and organ performance. His earned his master’s degree in conducting from Carnegie Mellon University, where he studied with and was a protégée of Robert Page, one of America’s best and best known choral conductors. He was one of 15 conducting fellows at the Dennis Keene Choral Festival, coaching alongside Vance Grorge, Dennis Keene, and Peter Bagley. Mr. Megahan has served on the Executive Board of the American Guild of Organists (AGO) Pittsburgh Chapter, Board of the Organ Artists Series of Pittsburgh, and Program Committee for 1999 AGO Region III Convention in Pittsburgh. He holds the AGO Service Playing and Colleague Certificates and is also active in Chorus America and the American Choral Directors Association.
